President Biden Touts Climate Action With Little Specifics in State Of Union
WASHINGTON – President Biden gave his first State of the Union address tonight, touching on issues from the crisis in Ukraine to climate change.
On climate, Biden first touted the bipartisan infrastructure bill, thanking his “Republican friends” for helping to get it over the finish line. Biden then praised tax credits for weatherization and energy efficiency, as well as wind and solar energy.
The president failed to mention nuclear energy, the cleanest and most reliable energy source we have at our disposal, nor natural gas, which is responsible for slashing emissions in the United States. In a blanket statement, Biden promised to cut energy prices and save Americans $500 per year.
ACC President and Founder Benji Backer said: “While President Biden’s continued focus on climate is encouraging, he has largely failed to deliver real progress during his first year in office. While the bipartisan infrastructure bill contains numerous climate wins, Biden painted an incomplete picture of the potential of American energy. To fight climate change, we must use every tool at our disposal: clean nuclear energy, nature-based solutions, and targeted deregulation to unleash the power of innovation.”
